Railcar turntables still important part of the railway industry

Railroads and rail yards have depended on turntables since the early 1900's to rotate locomotives & railcars from one track to another, typically to change the direction of travel. This railcar turntable is 60 tons capacity, 360 degree continuous rotation and fully decked with heavy surface grating to withstand vehicle traffic. Its' purpose is to rotate incoming cars to a right angle outgoing track.

Our table had a unique feature built into it, with a 60 ton rail mounted scale, designed to weigh finished railcars to within 0.2% accuracy (.002 X weight of car), or within about 250 LBS of the 120,000 LB car.  The accuracy met NIST H44, Class III L requirements.

A corrosion resistant, closed loop system containing eight (8) hydrostatic stainless steel load cells was utilized where a thin film of oil is compressed under load (our railcar) and the deflection is transmitted as a precise signal to a table mounted totalizer which sends a millivolt output with the final car weight to a digital indicator and a hard copy ticket printout sent via wireless controls to a remote office. This durable scale is designed to take abuse from rotating motion, and withstand continual starting and stopping of the inertia loads of a rotating railcar.

Vigo Engineering's experience keeps cranes running across the US

Bucyrus Erie, recognized as the premier builder of Coal Mine draglines, has overhead cranes in the house of each machine to facilitate maintenance of equipment.  This photo is the inside of their workhorse machine, the 2570.  The cranes are typically 20 to 30 ton capacity, and Coal Mines from West Virginia throughout the Midwest, and west through Missouri, Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, and Arizona, have relied on Vigo Engineering's experience to keep the cranes running.
